Annually brand new baby items are collected in October by St. Paul the Apostle parishioners and items are placed in an actual baby crib in the Narthex of the church. Parishioners including the Middle School (Edge) and High School (Life Teen) Youth Groups generously participate in the collection. The Life Teen kids also sold Fry Bread in order to raise money to purchase baby items to donate.
This annual collection coincides with October Right to Life Month. Originally this collection helped Crisis Pregnancy, a center that helped young girls and women understand that there were choices other than abortion and then helped them with counseling and needed “beginning” items for their baby. Over time Crisis Pregnancy lost its funding leaving a real void in the Juneau community. Love INC has taken on this ministry to help new parents in need. Most of the items they receive are used. So Gerri Mcleod, of Love INC, was most grateful for all of the donations from this parish. When she saw that all the items were new, she choked back tears saying how nice it would be to give “new items for new life.” St. Paul’s parish is most grateful to Gerri and Love INC for providing this much needed service to the community of Juneau.
