Catholic Community Service: Calling those who care and would like to contribute!

As you may know, Southeast Senior Services, a division of Catholic Community Service, proves a range of services for seniors through its 11 Senior Centers throughout the region. We are dedicated to promoting the health, independence and quality of life of seniors across Southeast Alaska. I want to offer you an opportunity to help us to help the seniors and elders in your neighborhood.

Catholic Community Service is blessed to have an amazing team of supportive and caring people – from cooks and drivers to site managers, coordinators and more. And we have been so fortunate that we have found creative ways to blend and braid state, local, tribal and community funding to serve thousands of seniors and elders from Metlakatla to Yakutat. But even with our big budget to do that work, we continue (as most non-profits do) to operate on a shoestring. Every penny is pinched, every purchase of food, fuel and supplies is mindfully and responsibly spent and stewarded.
This is why your assistance – the assistance of individual donors and volunteers is invaluable to our mission. With the help of Good Samaritans like yourself, we can create an even more robust Senior Center experience for our local elders.

This is how you can help

Volunteering – Our Senior Centers are ripe with volunteer opportunities. Some volunteers assist seniors directly, engaging in conversation, assisting with mobility, or helping serve lunch. Other volunteers work to enrich the senior experience at the centers by providing educational or crafting workshops, hosting bingo games, leading exercise classes, or even playing live music! The possibilities are endless, and we look forward to incorporating fresh ideas and new friends into our Senior Center communities.

Donating Food – Food donations are a welcome contribution to any of our Senior Centers. Especially healthy or sustainably sourced local harvest such as fish, venison, berries, etc. We also welcome financial donations specifically for food and beverage purchases for the seniors at your local center.

Meals-on-Wheels Volunteer Driver (Juneau only)– Since not all seniors we serve are mobile enough eat lunch at their local center, Southeast Senior Services hosts the Meals-On-Wheels program in the 11 communities with a senior center. In Juneau, we can keep costs lower by depending on our all-volunteer drivers to ensure the delivery of nutritious meals for home-bound seniors.

Donations are always accepted. Some services we provide are so essential that despite not having adequate grant funding, we rely on donations to keep providing the service. Your gift can be designated to your local Senior Center or Catholic Community Service as a whole, allowing us to use your donation for the programs that we struggle to fund.

You are a part of our ministry to help seniors and elders, as well as the children and families we serve. With the help of Good Samaritans like yourself, we can create an even more robust Senior Center experience for our local elders.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call! I’m always glad to speak with others who believe in our mission and call to help the poor, elderly, infirm and those in need.

God Bless You,
