Snow or Shine, Summer or Legislative Session. In times of plenty and times of financial trouble…Every single day, CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICE is living the corporal works of mercy!
With the 31st Legislative Session convened in Juneau, conversations about Alaska’s economic challenges are front and center. Many smart, caring, dedicated people are looking for ways to make ends meet, and provide for the health and safety of all Alaskans, especially those in need.
However, even as our elected officials work, and concerned Alaskan’s educate and advocate for solutions, Alaskan’s continue to need support to live safe, healthy and independent lives. So, despite the uncertainty Catholic Community Service and other non-profits and social service providers face right now, we continue to work every day to help Southeast Alaskan’s in need.
CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICE KEEPS PROVIDING HELP, AND THE CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY CONTINUE!
We rely on so many, and I want to share a bit of this with you and say thanks to those who give of their time and resources to help us make ends meet!
DIOCESE SPECIAL COLLECTION UPDATE
I wanted to share a quick update on your generous gifts during the Diocese special collection in September. As I shared during my brief pulpit talks at many parishes, we received a pledge from the Gaguine Family Foundation to match your gifts. The Gaguine Foundation DOUBLED your $20,000 donation to whopping $40,000 GRAND TOTAL dedicated to CCS program services for those in need! Thank you!
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers help us reach out to those in need, and they help our limited funds go further.
• In Juneau, all Meals on Wheels (an average of 60 meals a day!) are delivered by an all-volunteer team of drivers who not only hand deliver a hot, nutritious lunch to homebound seniors but also check on their safety and take a moment to show their compassion and friendship to these special seniors!
• At 11 Senior Centers across Southeast, volunteers serve meals, wash dishes, clean the center, and provide activities for seniors to make our centers a vibrant, joyful, healthy, welcoming place to meet!
• At Hospice & Home Care of Juneau, volunteers answer phones, deliver hospital beds, and minister as chaplains to those at the end of life and so much more!
