St. Catherine of Siena parishioner receives Eagle Scout Award

On the evening of January 29th, Flahavan a.k.a. Van Abbott received Boy Scouting’s highest award, that of Eagle Scout. Four young men (Van Abbott, Anders Christensen, Britton Erickson and Charlie Christensen) from Petersburg, all high school seniors, worked for 12 years in scouting completing all prerequisite badges, scouting ranks and their Eagle Scout project.
For his project Van built two yellow cedar picnic tables for the Marian Grotto at St. Catherine of Siena parish. In preparation for placement of the tables he cleared the area tree trunks and tree roots. Before receiving the award of Eagle Scout he had to present the project, receive approval, plan all work and estimate the help that he would need from his fellow scouts. The tables were completed in the spring of this year.eagle scout
The awards celebration was held at Holy Cross House of the Lutheran church and the hall was filled with family and friends. The boy’s parents were in attendance and participated in parts of the ceremony from telling stories about their sons through their years as scouts to their mother’s pinning the Eagle Scout Award on their uniforms. It was a wonderful evening and a fine tribute to these young men and their perseverance.
