INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN
VATICAN SYNOD SURVEY ON THE FAMILY
‘The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World’
January 14, 2015
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
You have probably heard about the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family that met this last fall at the Vatican. Last fall’s meeting was in preparation for the upcoming Synod of Bishops in October of 2015 which will be considering the vocation and mission of the family both in the Church and in contemporary society. Just as occurred in 2013, the Vatican has prepared a working preparatory document (called a lineamenta) that is composed of the concluding report from the 2014 Synod and forty-six questions about the state of marriage and family life. All of the Catholic faithful and people of good will are invited to respond to the questionnaire. Your thoughtful response will help inform Pope Francis and the bishops of the Synod about the challenges faced by today’s families and enable them to discuss and develop appropriate pastoral solutions.
The response from the Diocese of Juneau will be shared with the USCCB and will then be incorporated into a document that will be forwarded on to the Vatican for use at the Synod. Responses may be submitted individually or as a group.

I am grateful for your interest in and willingness to participate in this important information-gathering tool for the 2015 Synod on the Family.
Yours in Christ,
Bishop Edward J. Burns
