The inaugural issue of a new quarterly magazine produced by the three Alaska bishops, Alaska Catholic, is scheduled to appear in the mail boxes of registered Catholics in early October.
The Diocese of Juneau is excited and honored to be a part of this venture. The bishops have teamed up with a wonderful organization from the diocese of Lansing, Michigan—Faith Catholic. Working with them have been editors from the Diocese of Fairbanks (Robert Hannon), the Archdiocese of Anchorage (Joel Davidson) and the Diocese of Juneau (Mary Stone) to put together an attractive and engaging publication.
In a letter addressing the magazine’s intent, the three Alaska bishops state:
“As we begin this Year of Faith, it is our hope that this publication will assist you in growing closer to our Lord Jesus Christ and his body, the Church…
“Every issue will highlight each diocese in some way. However, the feature story will rotate between the three dioceses. All the stories will revolve around a common theme. The magazine will also include a set of standard columns by outside writers and focus on such topics as parenting, marriage, theology, prayer, and the contemporary issues of society facing Catholics today.
“It is our hope that this publication will deepen our understanding and enhance our practice of the Catholic faith. From the multitude of cultural expressions to the rich traditions of our history, the story of Alaska’s Catholic community is vibrant and should be shared. In doing such, we hope that our collective Alaska Catholic faith will be strengthened, and we will all be witnesses of Christ to the “people of our time” as we participate in the New Evangelization.”
