TOWN OF TAYCHEEDAH – A beloved priest at Holy Family Catholic Community died Wednesday night after he was struck by a motorist as he attempted to cross the Highway 151 Bypass on his bicycle.
Fr. Victor “Vic” Capriolo had been riding his bicycle east on the Prairie Trail around 7:54 p.m. and was crossing the Bypass at the intersection of County Trunk WH in the town of Taycheedah when he was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by a 74-year-old Fond du Lac woman, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department report.
The 67-year-old priest was pronounced dead at the scene.
News of Capriolo’s death was announced at an early Mass at Holy Family Church this morning. Capriolo came to Fond du Lac in 1998 as a pastor of St. Mary’s Parish. He was currently serving as priest moderator of the church’s four-priest team at Holy Family.
He was also the pastor designate to St. Mary’s Springs Academy, according to the Holy Family website.
Capriolo also served at Immaculate Conception in Milwaukee, St. Joseph Church in Grafton, St. Monica Church in Whitefish Bay, Holy Trinity Church in Milwaukee and St. Bernard Church in Wauwatosa.
He served a three-year pastoral assignment in Juneau, Alaska.
Traffic was shut down in the northbound lanes of Highway 151 for several hours. The crash remains under investigation.

With hope in the resurrection, we commend to the Lord Reverend Victor Raymond Capriolo who died on August 22, 2012 at the age of 67.
Born on May 10, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Father Capriolo began his priestly formation at DeSales Preparatory High School in 1959; he entered Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in 1965, and completed his studies in 1971. Father Capriolo was ordained to the priesthood on May 29, 1971, at his home parish, St. Agnes, Butler, by Most Reverend Leo J. Brust, Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Father’s priestly ministry began on June 22, 1971 as an associate pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish in Milwaukee. On June 14, 1977, he was appointed associate pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Grafton; appointed Director of Spiritual Formation at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary on June 16, 1981; associate pastor at St. Monica Parish, Whitefish Bay on June 22, 1982; and on July 1, 1985, appointed a pastoral team member at St. Monica’s. Beginning on July 15, 1988, Father would spend the next three years serving as a chaplain in the service of the Diocese of Juneau, Alaska. Returning to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in August of 1991, he took a sabbatical before beginning his appointment on December 22, 1991 as administrator at St. Nicholas Parish, Milwaukee, in collaboration with St. Albert and Holy Redeemer Parishes, Milwaukee. On June 23, 1992, Father was appointed pastor at St. Bernard Parish, Wauwatosa. He began his ministry to the people of Fond du Lac on June 16, 1998, as administrator of St. Mary Parish. On July 1, 2000, he was appointed a team member of an in solidum team to serve the new Holy Family Parish in Fond du Lac; on June 16, 2009, Father was appointed the moderator of the in solidum team at the parish, a position he held until the tragic bicycle accident that claimed his life. In addition to his parish ministry, he served also as Dean of District 8 (Fond du Lac County) from January 1, 2006 until June 30, 2008.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Father Capriolo will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Holy Family Parish in Fond du Lac (271 Fourth Street Way); Archbishop Listecki will preside. Priest friends and former colleagues are invited to concelebrate; please bring an alb and white stole. Visitation takes place at the parish on Monday, August 27, from 2:00-7:00pm (with a 7:00pm Vigil Service), and again on Tuesday morning, August 28, from nine o’clock until time for the eleven o’clock funeral liturgy.
Members of the Purgatorial Society will please offer the prescribed Mass for the repose of his soul and include Father Capriolo’s intention in the General Intercessions at the parish.
