A Totem Pole Raising took place on Thursday, August 4th, at Totem Park in Klawock on Prince of Wales Island.
Many people came from all over the state of Alaska to attend. The majority of the crowd was from Tlingit clans and a few from Haida clans as well.
Father Jean Paulin Lockulu, pastor of St. John by the Sea, using the megaphone with so many people in attendance, said the opening and closing blessing in Tlingit to practice what he has been learning from his teacher, Mrs Clara Peratrovich.

Father JP was publicly welcomed by one of the elders in the Tlingit Community, MY Dewey Skan, as Father JP has recently returned to serve the Church in Klawock, on Prince of Wales Island. Before returning to Prince of Wales Island, Father JP served as the director for the Office of Northern Missions. Fr. JP traveled regularly to visit the missions of the diocese.
