On the National Day of Prayer for the Protection of Unborn Children, January 22, Catholics of Alaska’s capital city joined together for daily Mass at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During the Mass, the congregation prayed for the end of abortion, on the anniversary of the Supreme Courts Roe v. Wade decision.
During his homily, Father Pat Casey, OMI said, “Today we come together against something that never should’ve happened” and added, “There have been more babies lost from that point on than in both World Wars and Vietnam.”
Fr. Pat concluded his homily reminding everyone that, “All life is unique, created in image and likeness of God.”
After Mass, parishioners joined with other pro-life supporters on steps of the Alaska State Capitol building for the annual rally for life, organized by Alaskans for Life. The Knights of Columbus from both Juneau parishes were in attendance, with their banners to the left and the right of the steps. The Knights also passed out pamphlets from the USCCB on pro-life issues.
The main speaker for the rally, Pat Martin, spoke to those gathered, which included many state legislators and Governor Mike Dunleavy.
Martin, the head of Alaska Right to Life, said, “It is time to get behind comprehensive legislation, affirming that life begins at conception and protects all life from conception to natural death.” He concluded his speech asking everyone who wants to see an end to abortion to get involved, “Let’s make 2019 the year that we act and protect innocent children in the womb.”
